Purpose
This template is designed for instances where the extinction dagger cannot be displayed next to a taxon correctly due to preformatting in the taxobox.
This template also has valuable semantic meaning: encoded in the template is a title attribute that reads "Extinct", which isn't present if an extinction dagger is simply typed out. The template emits the following HTML:
<syntaxhighlight lang=html>†</syntaxhighlight>
Usage
<syntaxhighlight lang="text" class="" style="" inline="1">{{extinct}}Raphus cucullatus</syntaxhighlight>
- yields
- †Raphus cucullatus
